Week of October 30th - Nov. 4th

Conferences-Thanks for all those that attended. I'm excited that we can work together and help your child become a better student.

Homework-Make sure they are reading 20 minutes at home everyday. On Monday and Wednesday, they will have writing homework.

Social Studies-We have studied about the N.W Coastal Indians/S.W desert. This week we will study about the Indians of the Plains. All test this week is on New Mexico and Colorado.

IXL-If you have internet at home, have your child get on IXL for 10-15 minutes daily. This will help them with their math.

            Week of October 24th - 28th
Wednesday: No School. Work Day for Teachers.

Thursday/Friday: Conferences. Please make sure you come to your conference with your child and be on time. They are 20 minute conferences and I want to make sure that you get your maximum time.

Homework: Monday and Wednesday will be writing homework. I've decided that we need to more time to work on their writing and the homework gives them more practice.

Geography:
The quiz this week will be on Montana and Wyoming.
We are studying about the S.W Indians.
 
Science: They are making Jitter Bugs and discussing electricity.

The field trip to the Japanese Garden/Rose Garden was great! The students enjoyed it and were very respectful.

Field Trip-Thursday, October 20th. Leave at 9:30 to Rose Gardens/Japanese Gardens and be back by 12:30. Please let me know if school will provide lunch or your child will bring their own lunch.

Conferences: Conferences are October 27th/28th. Please be there with your child to discuss progress, goals and levels that your child is at. Also, please come on time as I have many on the same day.

Accounts: Your child has received a g.mail account. We will discuss safety issues around using emails and information. We will also discuss cyber-bullying.

Please access the Scholastic free book on the site.

READING: Please make sure your are listening to your child read at least ONCE a week or discussing the book that they are reading. This is extremely important in helping your child understand and comprehend what they are reading. My goal along with your support is to get them reading at 1 or 2 grade levels from where they started in September.

Homework
: On Monday/Wednesday they will get writing for their homework. They must write one page to receive a one star. This is to ensure we get to the level that we need to be at by the end of the year. If we work together, your child will be at a higher level

Updates: Week of Monday October 10th

Homework: Read 30 minutes and fill out reading log. 1 minute timed word list. 1 minute timed math sheet.
Math: We are working on place value, rounding, telling time/elapsed time.
If you have internet, please get on IXL-each kid has a password.
Social Studies: We are working on Northwest Coastal Indians. They have studied their natural resources, homes, food and special things that make them unique.
Quizzes: Every week we will have a geography quiz. Last week we studied Oregon, Washington, California. This week the test will be on Nevada and Idaho.
Field Trip: We will go to the Japanese Garden on October 20th. We will leave at 9:30 and arrive at the Rose Gardens first. We will stay there for about 40 minutes and then go to the Japanese Gardens. We will be back by 12:30 and have lunch at school.
Book Orders-September order form was ordered. The books should be in this week!
